Swatch diaries | Carbeth cardigan

Can you believe I had to swatch for this four times?!

I'm a notoriously lazy swatcher and it's possibly my least favourite part of the process, so having to make four different swatches tested my patience a bit!

But after all those false starts (forgetting to record which needle size I'd used, sizing down my needles and wondering why I was still getting more stitches to the inch...) Carbeth is finally underway.

On Saturday morning I sat down with some coffee, opened up YouTube, and finished off the fourth (and thankfully, last) swatch while I caught up with some knitting vlogs.

It was kind of agonising waiting for the blocked swatch to dry, but at least it meant that I could work on my log cabin blanket shawl for a little bit. (Status update if you're interested: three squares done, fourth in progress)

This is one addictive knit - I cast on in the evening and by bedtime on Saturday the ribbing was done.

The yarn has been lovely to work with so far. It's Cascade Eco+ in a beautiful, rich heathered green (Shire) which reminds me of woodland walks under the cool, green canopy of leaves. It's also a lot softer than I expected - for some reason I thought it would be on the crunchy side, but it has a lovely handle and is surprisingly cool to the touch.

Sunday morning brought another round of coffee and vlogs and another couple of inches of progress. Hopefully I can keep that rate up so that I'll have a new cardigan for September!
